PADI CERTIFICATION COURSES

All PADI courses are based on the principle of learning by doing, and only progressing when the necessary skills have been mastered. Should you need extra dives in order to satisfactorily perform the required skills, there are no extra charges.

Remember, when you follow a course you are still on vacation. It is no problem if you want to dive one day and have the next one free, courses do not have to be completed on consecutive days. We will design your course programme to suit your holiday itinerary.

The prices mentioned below include the course crewpack, which contains all the necessary theory books required for that particular course.

Please be advised that it is necessary to be a competent swimmer before learning to dive.

PADI Scuba Diver [2 days]

This is the first level of diver certification. On completion you will be licensed to dive anywhere in the world under the supervision of a PADI professional to a maximum depth of 12 meters.

During this course you will learn all the basic underwater skills necessary to enable you to enjoy scuba diving safely in three confined [shallow] water modules. You will then put these skills into practice, and have a lot of fun, in two Open Water dives. Alongside the water sessions are onboard video assisted lessons and three multiple choice quizzes.

From this level you can easily continue on towards the Open Water Diver, which allows you to dive to 18 meters.

PADI Open Water Diver [3-4 days]

This programme follows on from the PADI Scuba Diver course, on completion you will be licensed to dive to 18 meters with another qualified diver/buddy. PADI Scuba Divers can upgrade to PADI Open Water Diver in one to two days, beginners can complete the whole course in three to four days.

The course consists of five confined [shallow] water modules and four Open Water dives. By the end of the course students will be comfortable with the equipment and be able to relax and enjoy diving in less demanding conditions, even using a compass to plan and navigate a simple dive route.

The use of a video reduces classroom time, giving you more opportunity to get wet, and four multiple choice quizzes lead you in easy stages to the final theory exam.

Now you can dive - but how do you take underwater photos, recover that anchor, name that fish … ? As an Open Water Diver you will want to learn and discover more about the underwater world - the way forward is through Adventure Dives.

PADI Adventures in Diving Programme [1 - 3 days]

Your lifetime of diving pleasure and fun is just beginning. The PADI Adventures in Diving Programme is designed to increase your diving experience and knowledge in a controlled and safe environment.

Each Adventure Dive stands alone, allowing you to explore individual interests. You may complete as few or as many Adventure Dives as are available in Kalithea, time, inclination and finances permitting. Completion of three Adventure Dives earns you the PADI Adventure Diver rating. Completion of five Adventure Dives, including the Deep and Navigation dives earns you the PADI Advanced Diver certification. Adventure Dives completed with other PADI Dive Centers will be counted towards either of these certifications.

Each Adventure Dive includes knowledge development through the use of the PADI Adventures in Diver manual, Instructor presentation and video. This is followed by an Open Water dive designed to put your knowledge into practice in a safe and enjoyable way.

Adventure Dives available through the Waterhoppers Diving School are:

AWARE - fish identification                             Boat

Deep                                                               Multi-level and Computer

Peak Performance Buoyancy                         Search and Recovery

Underwater Naturalist                                     Underwater Photography

At the Instructor's discretion an Adventure Dive may count as credit towards the first dive of the corresponding PADI specialty course. For example, the Peak Performance Buoyancy specialty course is normally two dives; if you complete the Peak Performance Buoyancy Adventure Dive during your Advanced course then you may only need one more dive to gain the specialty certification.

The in-water training culminates in a series of accident scenarios giving you the opportunity to put your new skills into practice. The whole Waterhoppers crew participates in these scenarios and many deserve 'Diving Oscars' for their performances as injured divers!

DIVEMASTER **** ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR **** INSTRUCTOR

WHY CHOOSE THE WATERHOPPERS DIVE SCHOOL?

There are many good training courses for PADI professionals in Europe and for that matter all over the world. However, most produce the same result - a qualified, competent and safe, but inexperienced, dive professional.

What diving school and resort owners are actually looking for and are willing to pay high salaries for are not only good diving professionals, but people with the right sales and operational management skills as well.

The Waterhoppers Diving School is one of the largest in Europe, taking an average of 100 resort divers a day during the season. We have been operating in the Greek Islands since 1978 and are one of the largest employers of dive professionals in Europe.

With our years of experience, multi-lingual and professional directors and staff we are in the ideal position to host training courses for PADI professionals, and have extended the various courses to include training experience in sales, operations management of the various departments, equipment maintenance, tank filling and perhaps most importantly hands on experience with real diving clients. Perhaps our best recommendation is that a high proportion of our students remain and become permanent members of the Waterhoppers crew.

DIVEMASTER

Divemaster is the first professional ranking in the PADI system of diver education. As such, the Divemaster course includes many different aspects of diving and takes longer to complete than any other course.

The pre-requisites for joining the course are that the candidate is a PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent; has a minimum of 20 dives to start the course and 60 to finish; and is at least 18 years of age.

The course itself consists of four basic sections: diving theory; stamina exercises; general dive skills; and training as a dive leader and professional assistant.

The dive theory is self study, although, of course, your instructor is available to explain any difficulties you may have. The books required for the course are the Divemaster Manual, the Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving and the Diving Knowledge Workbook. It is also useful to have your own PADI Instructor Manual, although one can be made available to you during the course.

As a Divemaster you will be expected to be physically fit. The purpose of the stamina exercises is to test your fitness. Each exercise is timed and marks given accordingly. Time will be set aside during the course for you to practice.

The section on general diving skills includes mapping, a rescue assessment and in-water skills circuit. One of the courses a Divemaster is able to teach is the PADI Scuba Tune-Up, which involves demonstrating skills. Your in-water skills must therefore be of a high standard. However, time will again be given to practice skills until they are of demonstration standard.

The emphasis in the Divemaster course will be on training as a dive leader and professional assistant. The previous sections provide the background to this. You will learn how to plan and lead a dive for qualified divers; how to conduct the PADI courses that a Divemaster is qualified to take; and how to act as a professional assistant to an instructor. You must reach a certain standard in each of these areas to qualify.

It is difficult to predict how long the Divemaster course will take as extra training may be necessary in one or more areas. You can expect to need 4 to 6 weeks to complete the course.

INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT COURSE

The Instructor Development Course consists of two parts - the Assistant Instructor and the Open Water Scuba Instructor programmes. Combining the three-day Assistant Instructor [AI] course and the four-day Open Water Scuba Instructor [O.W.S.I.] programme makes up a seven day Instructor Development Course [IDC]]

The Waterhoppers Diving School offers candidates the option of a one to two week extension, either side of the IDC, to gain experience as a dive professional through assisting in the various programmes offered by our school.

Successfully completing an AI course allows instructor candidates to earn the PADI AI rating which authorizes them to function as instructional assistants and independently conduct certain PADI programmes. AI course completion also qualifies candidates to participate in an O.W.S.I. programme. Successfully completing the O.W.S.I. programme [or an entire IDC] makes candidates eligible to participate in a PADI Instructor Exam [IE]. The IE is a completely evaluative programme that tests the instructor candidate's teaching ability, dive knowledge, skill level, understanding of the PADI system, attitude and professionalism. Instructor candidates become Open Water Scuba Instructors only after successfully completing an IE.

The goals of the IDC are not limited to teaching candidates how to pass an IE. The IDC emphasizes development, not testing. This produces a low-stress environment that makes learning easier. Candidates can relax and concentrate on skill development, knowing that making mistakes is part of the learning process.

The Waterhoppers Diving School currently runs one IDC and IE each year, with plans to extend this to two full programmes. The beautiful island of Rhodes with it's warm, clear waters makes it the perfect venue for an IDC.

Dates and prices of future IDCs are available on request.
